Wits Journalism will be piloting blended learning In July 2019, where students will learn via electronic and online media as well as the traditional face-to-face teaching.

The first course to be offered through blended learning will be Journalism for Communicators. The course if currently offered through face-to-face teaching during the first semester of every academic year.

Journalism for Communicators is offered as a certificate course, a step towards the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Journalism and Media Studies or as part of this degree.

The course covers the basics of journalism, such as news writing and editing, newsroom processes and management, basics of media law and ethics as well as communication.

With the introduction of blended learning, students will get tuition through computers and smart phones, wherever they are, as long as they can access online tools and internet connectivity.

Students will be required to attend about three face-to-face classes during the semester, although those that cannot get to campus will be able to follow classes using audio-visual technologies.

Applications are now open. Prospective students can contact Enoch Sithole about the course, at enock.sithole@wits.ac.za or Linda Sowden at Linda.Sowden2@wits.ac.za regarding application processes and fees.
