#DATAMUSTFALL
South Africa’s data costs are amongst the highest on the continent which has resulted in a public outcry in the form of social media campaign #DataMustFall.
On #LawFocus we probe the competition in the telecommunications sector with Executive Director at Research ICT Africa and Adjunct Professor Gillwald.
Right 2 Know launched a campaign in 2013 demanding lower data costs and recently held a picket outside four telecommunications companies; MTN’s head office in Randburg, Vodacom in Midrand, Cell C’s head office in Sandton and Telkom in Centurion. We speak to Right 2 Know’s General Moyo about their demands.
The show also talks to National Consumer Commission’s spokesperson Trevor Hattingh about the validity period for data and their task team set up to ensure that networks are complying with the Consumer Protection Act.
This edition of Law Focus is produced by Khutso Tsikane and hosted by Nyiko Shikwambane. Technical production by Kutlwano Serame
