Wits University has been the scene of violent clashes over the past few weeks as private security and the SA Police Service armed with rubber bullets, stun grenades and tear gas have faced off against protesters some of whom are armed with stones. At the Law Focus, we look at the militarisation of Wits campus. We hear from students, student journalists and medical students on site.
We speak to Paolo Frassineli Associate Professor at the University of Johannesburg, who has been observing and gathering evidence of police and private security violence on our campuses since 2015.
Dr Carin Runciman; South African Research Chair in Social Change and Post-Doctoral Research Fellow tells us about the tactical response team deployed and we end of with Ofentse Motlhasedi who is a Litigation Fellow at the Socio Economic Research Institution about what the interdicts against protesting students mean.
This edition of Law Focus is produced by Xoli Matomela and Khutso Tsikane and presented by Nyiko Shikwambane. Stream Tuesdays 6-7pm on vowfm.co.za or 88.1FM in Joburg.
